Filipino Resilience

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
I was shocked to see the photo of an overturned ship Princess of the Stars near the shores of Sibuyan island in central Philippines. I feel sad and sorry for the relatives of those who perished. My country has been an area where calamity often strikes and on many occasions claim many lives.

Beatriz Taylor from Cheung Chau had a good description of how we Filipino people move on with all the blows we receive.

It is amazing how poor people faced with adversity remain upbeat, in the same way that they endure bad treatment from employers. Filipinos are used to bearing nature's blows, showing that, though they are fatalistic, they remain cheerful and resilient.

My heart goes to the victims and their relatives. We remain faithful, despite all these tribulations.
