Leaking Airport Terminal 2
Nobody's perfect. Even the world's best airport in 2007, majestic and awesome has its own set of problems to deal with. The continuous rains that visited Hong Kong in the past days caused the leaks of Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2. The one-year-old terminal is where Emirates, Philippine Airlines and South African Airways are located.
It's another blow to the reputation Hong Kong has been carefully conscious about. A few weeks ago, tourists from several other countries found themselves asked to leave the Hampton Tatami Hotel in Mong Kok after it was took over by Bank of East Asia. Such move was ill-advised and is could hurt Hong Kong's image more than the airport leaking incident yesterday.
The 140,000-square-metre Terminal 2 was supposed to help drive future passenger growth at the airport by providing more check-in facilities and also to ease congestion at the main terminal.
When I was there to meet a friend last year, I was so impressed about its interiors, thanks in part to Chun Wo Development which constructed the terminal and made interior designs a reality. Little did the company know that it hasn't done enough to prevent leaking of the roof, which is mandatory for large buildings in Hong Kong. The rainy season has come and this is one of the real tests of the worthiness of these modern structures.
