VIP Production: Free Access to Hong Kong Concerts

In the past two weeks, I got the chance to finally witness Filipino shows that are held in Central's Chater Road and Chater Garden. Because Philippine Independence Day took place in the month of July, Filipino groups never run out of shows for everyone to watch and enjoy.

This time, with the rivalry of Philippine mobile phone carriers Smart and Globe expanding to Hong Kong, each firm sponsored a show that brought actors and singers to entertain the Overseas Filipino Workers. Smart has its own 1528 brand while Globe preferred to partner with CSL, a local mobile phone company.

When I talk about witnessing Filipino shows I don't mean just peeking through the crowd. I was privileged to know Jong Inocencio, the director of these shows. I know him way back in 2001 and though we seldom meet anymore, the friendship remains. Once he saw me with my girlfriend behind the barriers of the backstage, I was called inside to have a better view near the backstage. In the past two weeks, I saw Janno Gibbs, Jericho Rosales, Pops Fernandez, Side A Band, Francis Magalona, Arnell Ignacio and a few other celebrities not too familiar to me.

If fans were willing to pay for their concerts, we didn't have to do so to get these prized seating arrangements. Thank you Jong and VIP Production.
